Read Femi Fani-Kayode's piece on President Buhari's new book

In this piece, FFK alleges that the book's author, professor John Parden is a praise singer who wrote a similar hagiography for Ahmadu Bello in 1986. He also makes some weighty allegations on the source of president Buhari's campaign funds. Read below...
Professor John Paden, President Muhammadu Buhari’s official biographer, is a man that is very comfortable with distorting the truth and telling lies. He is also a man that has been doing so for virtually all his adult life.
Anyone that doubts that should read his biography on the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, which was written in 1986 and titled “Ahmadu Bello, Saurdana of Sokoto: Values and Leadership In Nigeria”, and which is essentially a self-serving and comprehensive compilation of Bello’s numerous virtues with little or no mention of his many vices.
I read that book twenty years ago and I placed it in the “light entertainment” shelf in my library because it lacked gravitas or any real intellectual stamina.
It was, at best, a beautiful public relations job for Bello and, at worse, a compilation of disjointed verbiage fit only for the dustbin.
Paden’s book on Buhari falls into the same category. It is nothing but an illusion: an extraordinary and fantastic fairy-tale built on a shady foundation of pseudo-intellectual clap-trap and garbage.
To him, President Buhari is infallible. He is, at best, an angel of light and, at worst, a perfect mortal with no warts.
Paden’s latest contribution is the greatest exercise in dishonesty and historical revisionism that has ever been undertaken by any foreign or Nigerian historian since independence.
The only one that comes close to it in this respect is the book that he wrote on the Sardauna and a number of other books that he authored over the years which were primarily about core northern Nigeria. Writing rubbish seems to be Paden’s stock in trade.
In his latest book, amongst many other glaring and shameless mendacities, he indulged in two particular lies that are an eloquent testimony to his perfidy.
The first was that three names were sent to President Muhammadu Buhari for the position of Vice President, namely Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Yemi Osibanjo and Babatunde Raji Fashola in 2014 for the 2015 presidential election.
This is false and it is simply an attempt to demean and belittle Tinubu and the role that he played in the whole exercise.
The truth is that it was Tinubu and Tinubu alone that forwarded the only name that was given serious consideration for the Vice Presidential slot by President Buhari. That name was Professor Yemi Osibanjo.
Senator Olorunimbe Mamora was also considered by Buhari but he did not have the backing of Tinubu and neither did Tinubu forward his name.
The idea that Tinubu’s name was forwarded to be Vice President alongside that of his two protegees in the persons of Osinbajo and Fashola is nothing but fantasy and it was a beautiful and tasteful dish and tale that was spiced cooked up and prepared in the kitchens of Aso Rock.
Again Tinubu never pressured Buhari to make him his Vice President as Paden has asserted because he had decided to drop that ambition long before then simply because the idea of a Muslim/Muslim ticket, which was originally on the cards, had eventually been jettisoned and rejected by the party due to public presssure and the division and outrage it attracted.
If the Muslim/Muslim ticket had not been rejected Tinubu would have been the Vice Presidential candidate of the APC and no-one else, including his erstwhile protegee Babatunde Fashola, would have had a hope in hell of getting it.
This is especially so given the fact that Buhari had originally promised him that position at the time that their parties merged and the APC was established but he later reneged. That is the bitter truth.
Paden was either misinformed by those who commissioned him to write the book or he was being propelled by an ulterior and malevolent motive for writing the rubbish that he did on the Vice Presidential issue.
Whichever way he was completly wrong and for the sake of history and posterity we must set the record straight.
The second lie that he told, which was infinately more dangerous and repugnant than the first, was that President Buhari has documents which are signed by President Jonathan which prove that the latter sought for what he described as “extra-budgetary funds”.
This is a pernicious lie. It has no basis in rationality, reason or truth. There is absolutely no evidence to substantiate it and I challenge Paten or President Buhari himself to make those letters and signed applications for “extra budgetry funds” public.
The whole thing is simply an attempt to further tarnish and demonise Jonathan and all those that served under him before the world and I believe that that is a crying shame.
I can understand such lies coming from a Presidency or a Federal Government that is scared of its own shadows and that feeds off its own propaganda but I cannot accept them coming from a supposedly reputable historian, albeit a foreigner, who has become the official writer and cheerleader of all things caliphate over the last 30 years.
Amongst many other things he also suggested that other senior figures in the political and military configuration in our country committed serious crimes and indulged in damning acts of corruption without being specific or even providing details of those acts.
Instead of doing so he suggested that the individuals concerned, which included President Olusegun Obasanjo, would have been prosecuted, brought to justice and called to account for their allegedly dastardly acts whilst in government if not for the fact that this could have had implications for the stability of the nation and national security.
Obasanjo, who is always quick off the mark and who was actually present at the launching of the book in Abuja as was Tinubu, responded in a measured manner by saying that there were “some insinuations” in it which he disagreed with.
Frankly that was a cop out. Obasanjo was being far too polite and this was probably due to the fact that he had not read the whole book as ay that time and he did not want to dampen the enthusiasm of the biographer, upset the President or ruin the occasion.
The adage is that you do not go to someone’s dinner party and spoil it by confronting his lies, challenging his allegations and speaking the bitter truth.
Yet I believe that though Obasanjo touched on the matter he did not go far enough. I believe that it is incumbent upon all those that were maligned and alleged to have indulged in acts of corruption by Paden to set the record straight and state their case.
It would be very dangerous for all those that have been misrepresented in this so-called book, including President Goodluck Jonathan, President Olusegun Obasanjo and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to keep quiet and not clarify the issues about what was written or insinuated about them because many years from now that book will be used as a major source and reference point for our history.
I urge all those affected to write their own books quickly otherwise they will become victims of historical revisionism.
If I had been invited by President Muhamnadu Buhari or Professor Paden to the book launch I would have mounted the podium and said as much. Sadly I was not.
Permit me to end this contribution by making a suggestion to Paden. Since he wrote about Jonathan’s campaign funds and alleged all manner of corruption concerning their source and application, in his next book on President Buhari I would suggest that he sheds more light on how his subjects own 2015 presidential campaign funds were sourced.
For a start he should tell us who provided the 10 million USD that was paid as consultancy fees to the company of Mr. David Axelrod, President Barack Obama’s erstwhile campaign manager.
He should also tell us the source of funds and how Buhari and his team managed the 19 billion naira that was given to him in cash by the then sitting Governor of the leading and largest state in the south west and the 24.6 billion naira that was given to him in cash and in one day (which was recorded on video before being handed over) by another leading south western politician.
In addition to that he should tell us precisely how much the then Governors of Rivers and Kano states and the present Governors of Ogun and Kwara states amongst many others contributed to Buhari’s campaign and where they got the money from.
Since everyone is claiming to be holy and righteous in this matter let us all get there and publicly exchange notes. After all the Nigerian public, and indeed the entire world, has a right to know.
If Paden fails to ask those questions and declines to provide the answers then he, his accursed books and his questionable and dubious “white-washing” mission of President Muhammadu Buhari shall undoubtedly remain damned forever.
Whether he does so or not other governments that will come to power in the future in this country will not only get the necessary answers but they will also do the appropriate thing and bring them to justice. It is only a matter of time.

Scottish photographer captures two West African migrants drowning in the Mediteranean during rescue

Scottish photographer Mathieu Willcocks captioned these photos of two migrants from West Africa drowning in the Mediterranean being rescued by Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS). The migrants were among those rescued this week while attempting to cross the sea on a overcrowded rubber boat. Both were struggling in the water, one pushing the other under.

Their rubber boat had started to sink and many migrants ended up in the water. Fortunately, the MOAS rescue team was there in time to distribute life jackets and assist the migrants. These two guys panicked and struggled in the water for a very short moment before being pulled to the safety of a large flotation device nearby.

10 months old baby girl dies after being sexually assaulted by mum’s new boyfriend (photos)

Police in Charleston, West Virginia, have arrested and charged Benjamin Ryan Taylor, 32, to court after  the 10 month old baby of his girlfriend died from head injuries sustained after he allegedly battered and sexually assaulted her in the basement'.
The baby, Emmaleigh Barringer, was found by her mother, Amanda, on Monday morning around 5am bleeding in the basement of their home which prompted her to call health authorities and police but despite staying alive on life support for several days, she tragically passed away after being declared brain dead by medical doctors.
Jackson County Sheriff Tony Boggs said to press:
“I’ve been here 25 years, and we’ve never encountered something of this nature. I don’t know if we’ve had anything like this near here.”
Police also revealed he was seen trying to wipe off something from his groin area while he was arrested and the police has also revealed his charges will be upgraded from sexual assault to murder.
Amanda’s cousin Danielle Adkins told WSAZ:
“The only way justice is going to be served is if he feels every ounce of pain that he caused her too. It wasn’t enough that he took her innocence, he had to take her life too.”

Mum of 4 left horrified after logging onto Facebook and finding pics of herself splashed across the news feed claiming she was dead

32 year old mother of four Candice Haines who suffers from Crohin disease, has revealed her horror at receiving calls from loved ones saying she was dead and logging on to social networking site, Facebook only to find her news feed littered with 'Rest in peace' and obituary messages of herself.

Candice's  photo was used on a health website, Daily Records, showing another woman and fellow Crohns’ sufferer who had died from the disease, immediately she was flooded with calls from concerned family and friends including her own father – after the story of her 'death' was shared across social media.
Candice speaking to the Sun UK on Thursday said:
“When I woke up last Tuesday to my dad calling me and lots of missed calls, I knew something wasn’t right. He was in a right panic as he’d seen the post on Facebook and presumed something had happened in the night. I was in complete shock, my first thought was, ‘why would someone write a story about me being dead?'
“Obviously it was a complete misunderstanding but it took hours to reply to all the messages online and let my closest friends and family know I was in fact alive. Thankfully I’m alive and I could shock those who thought I was dead with the best possible response, ‘I’m alive and well’.”

According to Candice, she first shared her story of her Crohn disease condition  in September last year to raise awareness for the effects the bowel condition has had on her life.
“I wanted to raise awareness and I suppose that even a story like this does that as it’s making people talk and understand the seriousness of the disease. I really have no idea how it happened, someone posted it in a Crohn’s group called IBD Superheroes and before I knew it I had so many inbox messages that I couldn’t even read them all and reply quick enough. Because I’m really active in the online Crohn’s community it was shared so many times and read by thousands across the country.”
“When I took the youngest ones to school last week all the mum’s at the school gates were shocked to see I was actually alive. Even my local chemist who I have been going to for years for my medication thought I had died.”

Photos: Man narrates his experience during the birth of his beautiful premature daughter

Facebok user, Ena Ofugara, took to his wall to narrate his experince as he witnessed the birth of his beautiful premature daughter. Amazing story! Please read below
I have never begged a female as I begged my daughter Mirabor to stay with me. No. Not even the worst "congee" has made me beg a girl so much. If indeed she heard the promises and pleas of "biko ne nu me dja" (please stay with me) then HA! I have to do an APC on her cos the promises were much. Now why would I not say anything to make her stay? July 8th 2016, I was at work when my 6 months pregnant wife called me that her water broke.
I was like "HA! Shebi the child is supposed to be born in October?" And so I rushed out of work, not even informing my supervisor or anyone in the night shift. I rushed my wife Kimberly Wise to the hospital where her mom met us. Indeed, I had rushed to clean fluids from the floor wherein she had walked. She was moved from that hospital to a better one that could handle the birth of a 26 weeks old foetus (yes that is what she was, not yet a baby really).
Really that was how I saw my wife with all sorts of wires on her and began watching monitors tht was measuring my child's heartbeat and it was upwards of 240. And then the injections and steroids started. Her lungs were said to not have been fully formed. And...and... after two days, with both the baby's life and my wife's on a ballance, the doctr was called back from his way home and that with the amniotic sac burst, my baby was infected. OMO!!!

And that was where the promises and begging began. I am sure I even told her that I will even give her boyfriend money to take her out to the movies once she is 18..... just promises like that, all rendered mostly in Uvwie. I even told her she will is my heir, girl or not. That she came before any male child. That she should stay. I also told her about Nigeria. That she is a citizen of two countries and owner of two passports, including the US passport That if she stays, she will understand what daddy has done for her through mom in making her a natural born citizen of the US. OMO!!! I promised this girl the world.

And so at the theater, three doctors around Kim and three waiting for the baby. Me? Ha! I have never felt so useless. I was telling myself "but no be only my wife the THING sweet naaa. why is she the only one bearing this pain. Why is it only her life that is in danger? Why is she the only one on the bed facing the sharp knives? How come the man gets to OWN the baby and give her his name when he is just really an onlooker at the critical moment of giving life? All these questions ran through my head as she was cut open and my baby born at 9: 38 or so. And a tiny little baby was brought from her belly, 26 weeks and two days. There was no smile on the doctors faces as a set was sewing up my wife and the other set putting some kind of liquid into my baby as if it was FUEL being put in a car that stopped at third mainland bridge....quick and hurried. OMO!!!! I could not even pray well. I was just like "Osolobrughwe BIKO" God abegggg. "Biko. Have mercy on me. Biko". And she was rolled away in a glass box. Only her eyes moved. The doctors will not even look at me. Of course I was smiling and telling my wife how healthy the baby was. She was born at less than one pound. OMO!!!
You see eh, I really praise atheists oh. I praise them. To not believe in a God, not have faith that there is a greater being looking out for us when we are helpless, to go through life without that BLESSED ASSURANCE... I really praise them. As for me, I had inboxed family and friends to just pray. Yes pray. Oh you think it is just the superior medical personel? (YES YES THAT TOO. WONDERFUL WONDERFUL DOCTORS AND NURSES AND SOCIETY AND GOVERNMENT ANd....) But my father, Chief Fred Ofugara JP had long punctured my faith in medicine. When I was trying to convince him that he should come for an operation here in the US, Chief said to me "Ena my son. Namejewan, that your US, do not people die?" And I thought of Michael Jackson and Luther Vandross and all the big moneyed stars who die in their youth and prime and of course, I had no argument for Chiefs logic. So despite my baby having more wires fixed to her than wires in Ogorode power stations, some in her head, nose, belly, thigh feet etc, despite the transfusions and procedures, I knew it was GOD as much as the AMAZING DOCTORS. And yes, even the dctor will say "There is an 80 percent chance she will survive. There is a 60 percent chance this this that. We will try so and so and HOPEFULLY..." Yes the doctors do not know for sure either. Thy never give you assurances. They gve you percentages. And the thing about percentages is that even if it is ONE IN ONE MILLION, someone is that ONE.

Today, without a procedure, the blood in her head has resolved, the hole in her heart has closed enough to be unmeasurable, her hernia operation successful, and more importantly, the oxygen that we were tolpart of what we leave the hospital with, MIRA's lungs and heart have found a way to use oxygen like the rest of us....NO OXYGEN TANK. God's atmosphere suffices.
So to everyone who understood the pressure we have been in these past three months, To those who prayed with us THANK YOU.
And and and....God almighty, the AGBADAGBURURU, The creator and healer! The one who gives and gives! The one who makes perfect! The one who is never late! The God in WHOSE HANDS I COMMITTED MIRABOR and named her MIRABOROSOLOBRUGHWRE which means I AM IN GOD'S HAND (okay, no way I am putting that in her birth certificate, even though the mom wanted me to) To that God that has kept food in my belly, love in my heart and a smile on my face To that God who OWNS MY FUTURE...To that God that has given me MIRABOR KENA OFUGARA..... Mi di gwe. Thank you for such a wonderful gift...a gift I place right back IN GOD'S HANDS

'It was vibrating in my stomach' Girl had emergency surgery after getting 7 inch dildo stuck up in her bum (Photos)

A student teacher and mum of one who got a dildo (sex toy) stuck in her anus had to undergo surgery after trying to no avail to remove the object, even going as far as using a fork handle and BBQ prongs to remove it.
Emma Phillips was 'enjoying' with partner Lee Miller, 29, during the early hours of Saturday morning when the sex toy ‘disappeared’. She even thought bf Lee had hidden the vibrator under a pillow only to press down on her navel and hear a vibrating sound 'inside her'.
Emma was rushed to hospital to receive surgical procedure and has now spoken out, warning other women to not let shame stop them from seeking medical help if they are faced with a similar situation in the future.
Emma, 24, from Wallasey, Merseyside, said:
“We were looking around the bed in case it had fallen out. When I leaned on my stomach I could feel it vibrating – it was stuck low down and at one point was even wedged behind my hip.”“For a while Lee was suggesting all kinds of wonderful options.'' She said to Sun UK.
“He tried a kitchen fork handle, which we won’t be using again, and said he could feel it at one point but that it was too far up – it was a goner. He tried BBQ prongs too but after a certain point – after an hour of trying – we knew were going to have to go to hospital. We were both a bit shocked.”
Emma said:
“We’d both been drinking the night before so we couldn’t drive. I had to make the most embarrassing call to the ambulance at 7am. The call handler said ‘tell me exactly what the problem is’ so I had to tell him.”
Emma said:
“At that point it was just more surreal than anything. I didn’t feel much pain at that point – I was in too much shock. The doctors were really good – they all moved quite quickly and were so reassuring telling me they saw it quite often which was quite a relief.
At first we were jokey about it but then realised it wasn’t much of a joke especially when there was talk of going through my stomach if they couldn’t get it.” “I think before that I thought of it as just a little operation to get it out, I still wasn’t taking it that seriously. When he said that – that only when I woke up would I know whether they would have to cut me open – it was really scary.”

At 12pm Emma underwent the surgery which involved placing a camera down her throat and the surgeon pressing on her stomach before manually extracting it.Emma said:
“My daughter was staying with my mum and dad as I stayed at Lee’s the night before.
“I wasn’t going to tell them but then I was going into surgery I knew we were going to have to say something so I told my mum the real reason. I just took some painkillers and was told not to use stuff like that again until I was ready.  I’ve learnt that I’ll need to be a bit more careful in the future.
“Lee’s not been scarred by it – he just thinks it’s funny. I think he should have one up his bum and take one for the team.”We weren’t going to do anything about it because of the embarrassment – there’s a big taboo about it – but we knew we needed help.
“I want to say a massive thank you to the ambulance crew and Wrexham Hospital staff who were really good, really reassuring and non-judgemental. There is a big taboo about this, but it really isn’t a big deal. You hear about people becoming really ill or even dying because they’re too embarrassed to get help – I would hate that to happen to someone.”

Photos: Six killed, 27 rescued in suspected al-Shabaab attack in Mandera, Kenya

Six people were killed when suspected Somali militant group al-Shabaab  attacked a residential building in Bulla public works, Kenya's border town of Mandera. The incident occurred  at about 2am on Thursday, October 6th, as the tenants were asleep. 33 people were in the building at the time of the attack. One was seriously injured and two missing.
"Out of the 33 non locals  residing in one plot, six were shot dead and 27 rescued by our security officers manning the sector," Governor Ali Roba said.
The militants used a grenade to break the entrance before they shot at those who were sleeping. They escaped soon after the incident," the police said.
As they attackers, said to be wearing KDF uniform, were fleeing, they threw another grenade which destroyed a nearby building. There was an explosion as police attempted to get into the house to retrieve the bodies, ripping off on of the roof tops.
Police said landmines planted in compound were delaying their attempts to retrieve bodies of the dead. Bomb experts were expected to detonate the explosives.
Mandera County Commissioner Frederick Shisia say they are working on switching off communication networks to allow police enter the building as they fear more explosives are in the house.
Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack and vowed to continue 'bloodbath' in Kenya as long as KDF remain in Somalia.

'Zambians are very crafty' - Ex-Super Eagles player Pastor Taribo West warns ahead of WC qualifier

Former Super Eagles player and clergy man Taribo West has warned the Super Eagles against the Zambian team as they prepare to face off in the first Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier on Sunday.
The former Inter Milan player who once admitted to using charms during his playing career feels Zambia led by coach Wedson Nyirenda are a tricky side, thus, Nigeria must be at their best to get a result.

"That Zambian team is a very crafty team. I saw their last match; it is a team you can't predict. They have very good players that are intelligent upfront," Taribo West told CompleteSports.
"The last match I saw Nigeria play was against Tanzania, If they can be consistent with that kind of spirit, they will go to Zambia and comeback with at least a point."
"With players like Mikel and Musa, it is a very big advantage on our side. With them we should be able to do well,” he continued.
"What I'm always worried about when it comes to the Nigeria team is the consistency of their team spirit.
"In the Nigerian team we don't have that consistent spirit which they can use in every match. It is very important to have such spirit on a regular basis, especially facing a team like Zambia."
Taribo West now pastors the Shelter in The Storm Miracle Ministries–a Lagos based church.

Female ex Corps members arrested in Akwa Ibom over alleged prostitution while celebrating passing out and charged to court

Over 30 women, mostly female ex-members of the National Youth Service Corps, were arrested yesterday night while celebrating their passing out at a popular joint in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
A team of Special Anti-Robbery operatives stormed the popular Maitama in Ewet Housing, arresting all the women present in a raid aimed at eradicating the area of prostitutes. They were ex-corpers but arrested as prostitutes... sigh
According to Akwa Ibom Trending, quoting The Mail,
The women were accused of engaging in prostitution. The women were chauffeured on police vans enroute the court. Efforts by family members of the former corp s members to bail their daughters met brick walls as the police said they have “orders from above” to charge them to court.
A female corps member told us on condition of anonymity said she was lucky to have been in the rest room at one of the joints when the police stormed the place. She said the arrest of her colleagues who were just celebrating their passing out is an infringement on their fundamental human rights, stating that the action by the police has painted Akwa Ibom in very bad light.
